Children's Education Program

The mission of the Children’s Education Program is to promulgate arts education. Bass Performance Hall is at the center of the program, serving as a “classroom” and offering a variety of performing arts educational opportunities of superior quality and free of charge to all students and educators.

Broadway Bridges at Bass Performance Hall

Serving High School Students and Teachers

A new initiative in partnership with The Broadway League and Performing Arts Fort Worth, Broadway Bridges at Bass Performance Hall gives high school students the chance to see a Broadway show right in their own backyard before graduation. Through partnership with participating Broadway tours, students and teachers have the opportunity to purchase Broadway tickets at a discounted rate, expanding their access to first-class theatre and removing barriers of entry into the world of touring Broadway.

Technical Theater Course

The Online High School Technical Theater Course will take students on a backstage exploration as they learn various aspects of technical theater including lighting, sound, and stage management. While this is not a hands-on opportunity, production experts will provide a unique look behind the scenes of Bass Performance Hall and offer a chance to see what happens when the curtain rises.

Summer Music Camps

When Bass Performance Hall opened its doors a decade ago, it not only ushered in the arrival of one of the nation's premier performing arts centers and live music venues. It heralded the beginning of something unique to Fort Worth and of national significance.  After the school year ends, we offer a range of summer camps for middle school and high school vocal and percussion enthusiasts free of charge.

 

Student Workshop

Our Student Workshops provide hands-on, highly personalized classes from extraordinary performers or "Master Teachers" - such as Chanticleer, Boston Brass, or Victor Goines from the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - for students with remarkable talent and interest.

Education Awards

65 Recipients

The Bayard H. Friedman Awards, begun in 1998, annually recognize an outstanding student and a dedicated teacher who have excelled in some area of the performing arts.  In 2007 the Perry R. Bass Fellowship was added to our roster of awards to recognize a graduate student who is studying music at a local university and is planning to teach.

More than one million children have experienced children’s education programs that include performances by acclaimed artists with exceptional arts organizations such as the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Opera, The Cliburn, U.N.T. One O'Clock Lab Band, Stage West, and nationally recognized groups such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Imago Theatre, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Chanticleer, Cantus, and Aquila Theatre.
