Children's Education Program

The mission of the Children’s Education Program is to promulgate arts education. Bass Performance Hall is at the center of the program, serving as a “classroom” and offering a variety of performing arts educational opportunities of superior quality and free of charge to all students and educators.

Student Matinees

1,211,854+ Served

Imagine the look on a child's face when first entering one of the finest halls in the world and experiencing a performance by a world-renowned artist.  The encounter is one not soon forgotten; it may just instill a love for the arts that lasts a lifetime.

Upcoming Performances

Summer Music Camps

2,801 Served

When Bass Performance Hall opened its doors a decade ago, it not only ushered in the arrival of one of the nation's premier performing arts centers and live music venues. It heralded the beginning of something unique to Fort Worth and of national significance.  After the school year ends, we offer a range of summer camps for middle school and high school vocal and percussion enthusiasts free of charge.

Teachers' Institutes

3,970 Served

To bolster music education in the schools, we offer a Teachers' Institute each year to vocal and instrumental music specialists, bringing in well-respected clinicians to share their expertise in methods and materials.  The institutes are free of charge to all teachers.

Master Classes

8,553 Served

Our Master Classes provide hands-on, highly personalized classes from extraordinary performers or "Master Teachers" - such as Chanticleer, Boston Brass, or Victor Goines from the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - for students with remarkable talent and interest.

Distance Learning

41,915 Served

In addition to our live performances, many students in rural parts of Texas and in schools around the country enjoy a virtual trip to Bass Hall to watch performances via a closed-circuit Internet connection.  This distance learning technology has become an integral part of our program and extends our outreach to many underserved areas.

Literacy Program

50,770 Books Distributed

Our education program is one of the only performing arts education programs in the nation that is completely free of charge, due to the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations - our Angels in the Wings - who believe in the value of performing arts education.

Education Awards

50 Recipients

The Bayard H. Friedman Awards, begun in 1998, annually recognize an outstanding student and a dedicated teacher who have excelled in some area of the performing arts.  In 2007 the Perry R. Bass Fellowship was added to our roster of awards to recognize a graduate student who is studying music at a local university and is planning to teach.

Student Tickets

12,282 Participants

Beyond the Student Performances, a Student Rush may be  available for selected performances. Student Rush offers are announced on the Bass Hall Facebook page and by email to our student rush mailing list.

Children's Education is the best thing we do, and perhaps the thing we do best.

I wish I could share a video album of all the different expressions on my students faces.  The Ohhs and Ahhs began from the rise of the curtain and lasted until the very end.
