Dates / Times: Sunday, 04/18/2010 6:00 PM Information:   The University of North Texas' Three O'Clock Lab Band, under the baton of Brad Leali, pays musical homage to one of the greatest hard-bop saxophone players in jazz, Texan David "Fathead" Newman. Newman, who passed away in 2009, spent more than a decade performing with Ray Charles; he also toured and/or recorded with Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin and B.B. King, among dozens of others. He also enjoyed a lengthy solo career, having released 38 solo albums. The featured guest will be noted saxophonist Frank Wess, who performed with jazz legend Count Basie for more than a decade. Guest of honor will be vocalist Karen Newman.

After a whirlwind start to 2010 - which included a pair of Grammy nominations and a tour of California - the University of North Texas' acclaimed One O'Clock heads back to McDavid, where they will perform new material to be recorded on Lab 2010, the follow-up to the ensemble's double-Grammy-nominated Lab 2009 recording. In addition, the One O'Clock will also perform longtime faves from the North Texas Lab Band library.
