Storm Large
Presented by: Performing Arts Fort Worth
Performance to be held at McDavid Studio
Dates / Times:
Friday, 09/19/2014 7:30 PM
Information:
Storm Large shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova, where, as is so true in so many reality TV shows, she lost the competition itself and yet came away with a fan base that follows her to this day.

Born in Massachusetts, yet honing her skills in rock clubs up and down the West Coast, Storm spent the 1990s singing in various bands in and around the Bay Area. Tired of the scene, she moved to Portland to pursue a new career in the culinary arts. A last-minute cancellation in 2002 at a Portland club turned into a standing Wednesday night engagement for Storm and her band. It wasn't long before Storm had a cult-like following in Portland, and a renewed career that was about to be launched onto the international stage.

Storm made her debut as guest vocalist with the band Pink Martini in April 2011, singing four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Storm has also sung with celebrated punk auteur John Doe, singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer George Clinton. In 2010, she made her first foray into the orchestral world with the Oregon Symphony, and has returned for sold out performances each year thereafter. Storm made her Carnegie Hall debut in May 2013, singing Weill's Seven Deadly Sins with the Detroit Symphony as part of the Spring for Music festival. The New York Times called her "sensational."

After the evil fairy is overlooked to attend the christening of the infant Princess Aurora, she places a curse on the child; if the Princess pricks her finger on a spinning wheel, she will die. One of the other fairies at the christening is able to partially reverse the curse. If the Princess pricks her finger, she will fall asleep for 100 years and must wait for Prince to wake her.

This production has been described by critics as being "polished and lively" and with the addition of the live symphony orchestra, is poised to be a crowd favorite this season.
