Workshop: Meaningful Movement: Experiencing Dalcroze Eurhythmics


Marla Butke, Ph.D., is a professor at Otterbein and Capital universities where she directs the Women’s Chorus and teaches general and choral methods. She is a Master Teaching Artist with the American Eurhythmics Society and focuses on teaching rhythmic structure and musical expression through movement in workshops around the county. She has received degrees from Miami University, Wright State and Ohio State University.

Workshop: Creating an Active and Engaging Upper Elementary Choral Classroom, Using Orff and Kodály Methods


A New York native, Lisa Blasi moved to the Valley of the Sun to study music at Arizona State University where she completed her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Music Education. Lisa also received all three levels of Orff training at ASU. She has had the privilege of teaching K-12th Grade Music in various school settings throughout Arizona. In 2015, she was awarded a grant to open up a performing arts school for underprivileged students in Mesa called Bellas Artes Performing Arts School. Lisa is passionate about teaching proper vocal technique with an Orff and Kodály emphasis. She believes that movement and kinesthetic awareness greatly aid the developing voice causing it to grow and flourish.

Jeremy Cohen

Workshop: Drumming for the Classroom

Jeremy Cohen is a Massachusetts-based percussionist, composer and educator. He has designed and implemented comprehensive African drumming curricula at Westfield State University, Worcester State University and Boston Arts Academy Performing Arts High School. He works with incarcerated youth through the Massachusetts Department of Youth and at the same time is an adjunct professor for graduate classes at Central Connecticut University, Westfield State University and UMass Amherst. Mr. Cohen has received degrees from U.C. Berkeley and The New England Conservatory of Music, as well as doing advanced study in Ghana.

Georgia Newlin, DMA, is Associate Professor of Music Education and Chair, Department of Music, at Adelphi University. She has taught in early childhood and public school music positions for 15 years and at the collegiate level for 14. Her courses include: “Introduction to Music Education,” “Classroom Instruments K-12,” “Elementary Music Methods,” and “Aural Skills and Musicianship III & IV,” as well as being the founder of the Adelphi Vocal Ensemble. In the summer she teaches at the Kodály Institute at Indiana University and has had articles published in the Choral Journal, The Orff Echo, Kodály Envoy, and Southwestern Musician. She has earned degrees at the University of Hartford (DMA), Holy Names University and West Chester University.

Children's Education Program

More than one million children have experienced children’s education programs that include performances by acclaimed artists with exceptional arts organizations such as the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theater, Fort Worth Opera, The Cliburn, U.N.T. One O'Clock Lab Band, Stage West, and nationally recognized groups such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Imago Theatre, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Chanticleer, Cantus, and Aquila Theatre.
